2013 Spring Concert, Education Building, University of Saskatchewan
The SYO spring concert will be on April 20 and 21 in Quance Theatre. There will be limited seating for the concerts, so please contact us in advance to reserve seating.
SYO Open House
The Saskatoon Youth Orchestra invites young musicians who play orchestral instruments to join them for a free lesson with one of our music specialists and the opportunity to play with the orchestra at an Open House on the evening of January 20, 2013 from 4:30 – 6:45 p.m. Players of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello, double bass and harp are invited to call 955-6336 or email admin@syo.ca to make a reservation. This opportunity is offered to serious students who have at least two years experience on their instrument and who may be interested in playing in an orchestra. There is no charge for this event.
SYO Chamber Orchestra Concert
Join us on Saturday January 12th for the Saskatoon Youth Orchestra's Chamber Concert. The concert will take place at 7:00 pm at Convocation Hall in the U of S College Building. The chamber orchestra will play Schubert's Unfinished Symphony and Mozart's Symphony No. 29. Tickets are $20.00 and are available at picatic.com and at the door. 2012-2013 Season Winter Concert
The SYO winter concert for 2012-2013 season will be on December 16, 2012 in Quance Theatre. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at picatic.com for concert at 2:30pm or for concert at 7:00pm .
Sundog Performance, Credit Union, Saskatoon
Saskatoon Strings and SYO Ensemble players will play in Sundog Arts Entertainment Faire at 4:00pm on December 1, 2012 in Credit Union Centre, Saskatoon.

Hummel Trumpet Concerto
The Hummel Trumpet Concerto, featuring Aaron Bueckert and the SYO Chamber Orchestra will be on May 17 at 7pm in Quance Theatre.

Congratulations to Taryn Jackson
The SYO would like to congratulate Taryn Jackson for being named the 2010 Junior Citizen of the Year for the Battlefords. Taryn is currently a player in the SYO.
Join us for the Orchestra Open House
The SYO will be hosting another open house on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011 at Quance Theatre in the Education Building of the U of S. Any young players of orchestral instruments are invited to come out. SYO players are asked to invite friends from school who may like the chance to explore classical music while improving their skills.
Winter Concert huge success
The SYO and Saskatoon Strings held their first concert at their new home in Quance Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 5. It was standing room only as an appreciative crowd listened to the Strings, the SYO Brass Quintet and the SYO perform.

The Saskatoon Youth Orchestra would like to congratulate Dr. David Kaplan on being honoured by former University of Saskatchewan music students Xiaoping Xu and Ling Chen.
Auditions, Open Houses
The SYO will be holding auditions for the upcoming season on Aug. 25 & 26.
Twice a year the SYO offers young players a free sectional workshop with our instructors and the chance to play with the full SYO during rehearsal.
New Place, New Time
SYO, Inc. would like to announce that starting on Sunday, August 29, 2010, rehearsals will be moved to Quance Theatre in the Education Building at the University of Saskatchewan. Rehearsal time will be 6:00pm. Hopes are that this time slot will reduce the number of conflicts for many players. Most importantly, from our young players’ perspectives, they can now sleep in on Saturday mornings.
SYO, Inc looks forward to this move and welcomes the opportunity to work alongside the Music Department.

Talent Enhancement Program

The TEP program, run twice a year, was created thanks to a grant from the City of Saskatoon. It allows blossoming orchestral musicians the chance to receive instruction free of charge from the sectional leaders and conductor of the SYO for a half day.
